Virtual due to 50% Rule

When the membership snapshot is taken it will take into account all attendance from the beginning of school and up through the count day. The snapshot will also take into account the current Membership virtual student status on the snapshot date.

If the number of actual virtual days for any reason is 50% or more of possible enrolled days for a student, the student must be reported as part of a Virtual program until the school has Certified their Membership data.

Since the Virtual Student status on the Membership (ME) portion of the state reports tab is used not only for setting the ME virtual student program type but also to set the daily enrollment code, we know that setting the Virtual Student to Yes for that amount of time would lead to much attendance data cleanup. For this reason, we have added an additional choice for Virtual student- that choice is named Virtual because of 50% Rule. If you have a student that needs to be in a virtual program so they are not excluded from the ME, you should choose Virtual because of 50% Rule. This will include the student in the virtual program for ME, but Harmony knows the student is not a true virtual student.

As a result the daily enrollment code will not be set to Virtual. Rather it will be set based on the daily enrollment status on the Enrollment History tab of the student demographics.

This will allow you to include the students in the ME Virtual Program, but know they are not true virtual students. Also you will be recording accurate daily attendance codes. If you mark Virtual Student Yes ,your daily attendance code will be Virtual and you will have to manually correct those entries.

If you export the student data and include the field VirtualStudent you will be able to tell which students are truly virtual (Yes) and which are marked virtual due to the 50% rule (VirtualByRule).
